Kenyatta’s spokesperson did not respond to an investigation from the Defender of whether lobbying from SportPesa or the gambling industry has affected his change of stance.

A voluntary code was applied by companies to donate 0.1% of their total gambling output. However, the 2018-19 GambleAware Sponsors List revealed that TGP Europe contributed only £ 100.
A SportPesa spokesperson said the TGP is responsible for the wagering responsibility payable to the HMRC when placing a bet in the UK, but did not answer questions about whether SportPesa has to pay taxes to the British company.
There is no publicly available information about who has benefited from these beliefs. SportPesa did not respond to questions about UK sales or whether UK taxes are being paid to them.
